Within a century of his death, many of the patriarchal values that he had challenged had largely reasserted themselves under the protection of a new source, the Hadith , which was to become the de facto source of much of the Islamic outlook.
There is enough evidence to suggest that there was much controversy among early Muslims regarding the acceptance of this new source of Islam beliefs.
